EVEN IN SUMMER, IT PAYS TO PREPARE
The sun may have surfaced but “there’s never been a better time to improve your home and reduce your fuel bills” according to Warmer Communities Project Development Manager, Leon Cowley.
Since securing the Warm Homes Fund in December 2018, Warmer Communities are working in partnership with Carlisle City Council to deliver funded First Time Central Heating and Mains gas connections to properties across Carlisle and District to achieve the following outcomes:
REDUCE FUEL POVERTY
4 Million UK households live in Fuel Poverty and are unable to heat their home to a healthy temperature.
Cold properties impact the health of those classed as vulnerable by the NHS, such as those aged 65 or over.
IMPROVING ENERGY EFFICIENCY
In 2014 the UK Government introduced a statutory target to ensure homes deemed as fuel poor (spending more on heating than income allows) must achieve a Minimum Energy Efficiency (MEE) rating of C by 31stDecember 2030.
SUNNY ENERGY SAVINGS THROUGH GRANT FUNDING
Warmer Communities was setup by award-winning contractors Thrift Energy Ltd to provide advice, funding and whole house energy solutions in one place. The Warmer Communities whole house approach is helping Veterans, Homeowners, Private Tenants, Landlords as well as others, access additional funding such as ECO3 and Carlisle City Council grants to cover the cost of energy efficient upgrades.
Furthermore, heating options including Gas, Oil and LPG are available to eligible properties through the Warm Homes Fund, helping to keep homes warm.
Work is usually completed within a day, so there is minimal disruption to those who qualify – the perfect opportunity to grab an ice-cream and enjoy a sunny day out whilst your energy saving heating system is installed.
“It’s been a great start to 2019 with Carlisle residents benefitting from funding secured by Warmer Communities.
Even if a property doesn’t have a gas connection we can help with the cost for the work through our access to funding, making it affordable to low-income households.
We are also in the process of helping homes that don’t have gas in their street, as Northern Gas Networks can carry out gas connections assisted by funding through the Fuel Poor Network Extension Scheme”.
